The trip to Grand Haven was a little "swelly", with a following sea off the starboard quarter. It wasn't a bad ride that took about 4.5 hours and was 27 NM. The inlet into Grand Haven was really choppy and rivaled Jones Inlet. This was due to all the boat traffic. Apparently, it was Coast Guard weekend just before we arrived.
Once we entered the North Shore marina, we had to try THREE slips to find one we fit into. We were met by Jack and JoAnn and their friend Craig. This is a private marina, however Jack's sister has her boat here and thier friends Craig and his wife Stephanie. They arranged for us to stay in the marina which was really nice of them. The marina is across Grand River so a dinghy is required to get to town. Unfortunately/fortunately we sold our dinghy the first day we were there. We have a new, lighter dinghy being delivered to us in Chicago. This dinghy was wonderful, but too heavy for our crane.
So, we had to rely on others to get us across. Chris and Mary could not get their dinghy launched because the slip was too tight. The first day, I went to town with Jack, JoAnn, Jack's sister Michele, and her husband Freddie. We spent a few hours going through town and having a nice late lunch. Hal stayed back to sell the dinghy.
The marina was large with a pool that we were able to relax and enjoy. The docks were so big and strong that people drove their golf carts on them to get around. We had a great Saturday evening sitting on the dock chatting with all the seasonal folks.
Sunday was a quieter day. Mary, JoAnn and I had a nice walk to the beach.
We were lent a big beautiful (and brand new) 17 ft Zodiac Open RIB and the three couples all wore our red Looper shirts and went to town. Mary and Chris were able to get dog sitters for Skipper so they could enjoy a meal without him. Unfortunately the wait for the restaurants was crazy, a two hour wait. After waiting for a long while Mary and Chris took the Zodiac back and Chris would come back for us later. Jack, JoAnn and Hal and I had a sushi dinner at Snug Harbor. Chris was waiting so we quickly ran to the ice cream shop before it closed and got everyone, including Mary some treats.
The town of Grand Haven sets off a water show that is timed to music each night in the summer. Of course the night we are there it does not go off due to technical difficulties.
The next morning before we left, we sold my foldable bicycle since we had purchased a used e-bike in Ludington. This was a successful place to sell some of our stuff.
